HEALTHY CHECK LIST-5 THINGS TO PREVENT INJURIES

Check in with yourself and ask these 5 questions to prevent strains and injuries


1. How many balanced meals are you consuming a day?

Eating sufficient calories help maintain and build a foundation of a strong body. The Canada food guide recommends three balanced meals a day to meet our daily requirement of nutrients.

2. Are you consuming mostly healthy calories?

Processed foods versus whole-foods? Think 80/20. 80% of the time consume whole foods and 20% of the time, enjoy a treat.


The reasons why processed foods are unhealthy:

  • Too much sugar, sodium and fat which leads to higher risk of lifestyle diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes

  • Lack nutritional value as processing strips away the good nutrients.

  • Calorie dense and addicting. It’s very easy to over indulge in unhealthy foods and we over consume more calories, which leads to being overweight or obese.

  • It slows down metabolism because our body does not work hard to digest processed foods. It has been already “processed” outside the body. Our metabolism slows and bodyweight compounds.

  • Full of artificial ingredients and preservatives which which can affect our bodies processes.

3. Are you giving your body enough sleep to recover?

Sleeping for 7-9 hours per night is crucial, especially if you are looking to change body composition, increase muscle mass and get lean. Sleep enhances muscle recovery through protein synthesis and human growth hormone release. If you want to grow or lean out, stop procrastinating and get to sleep!

4. Do you move enough to keep your muscles active?

Moving our body daily keeps our muscles and our bones strong. Being mobile means we have the elasticity of our muscles to move freely and to accomplish daily tasks with ease.

5. Do you have a healthy outlet to manage stress?

Experiencing higher than normal levels of stress can make our body tense up. We experience more aches and pains and are susceptible to strains and injuries. By having a healthy exercise regime. Not only will you have a healthy outlet to reduce stress but develop a body that is strong and resilient.
